Boho fashion can be difficult to understand for novice fashionistas. However, it is the most versatile way to dress because it can be styled for all four seasons. Boho fashion can be individualistic and worn in many ways, which makes it perfect for every time of year.

The Bohemian style is all about soft, happy colors and vibes. It resembles hippie fashion, but it is much more sophisticated than that. Bohemian clothing is perfect for any occasion. The Bohemian style will make anyone happy, even when they’re in a tough situation.

In this blog we will share some style tips on how to style Boho dresses for every season and occasion. Also, we will help you with the latest Boho trends at Cienna Design.

How to Dress Boho Style?

The bohemian style is much more than a fashion trend – it’s a way of life. Boho embodies the “Free Spirit”, with looks inspired by the 70s, art, and travel. Today’s modern Boho girl is a feminine lover of patterns, not afraid to mix and match and make an earthy but unique statement. Boho features a lot of long, loose, colourful clothing that is both unique in design and comfort. Key elements noted in the trend include tassels, fringing, natural fabrics, patchwork, and plenty of jewelry.

But here’s a few extra tips that’ll help you nail the Boho look (every time):

  • Layer your clothing in a “gypsy-like” manner
  • Choose long and flowing clothing… especially dresses (the whole point is free and easy not constricting/uncomfortable)
  • Layer your jewelry much like your clothing
    Choose natural fabrics and colours
  • Look for unique and impressive prints that have cultural significance (or prints that just “do it” for you)
  • Work to embody the “Free Spirit” woman you really are!

We also recommend you wear it with confidence – there’s nothing more stylish than that.

Dress Boho for evenings and occasions

If you’ve ever thought Boho being exclusive to the beach, festival, or just the summer, you’d be mistaken. With such a varying amount of styles, colours, designs, and fits, the Boho look can be carried into any occasion – especially when it comes to eveningwear and formal attire.

Rule no. 1 when it comes to styling a Boho look for evenings and occasions? Ditch the sandals, boots, sneakers, or whatever you wear with your look that aren’t heels – a heel is an absolute must when it comes to more formal Boho looks. It gives the elegance you’re looking for and gives an extra element to a long maxi dress, and you can easily incorporate tassels or earthy tones in your heels to keep it in-line with your style.

I guess that’s the only rule, but here’s a few guidelines to styling Boho for evenings and occasions:

  • Utilise the long, flowing maxi dress you’ve got in a stunning and unique print; whatever stands out and gives you a sense of elegance and refinement is PERFECT.
  • Pull out the long chandelier-like earrings, or even the long tassel ones! Jewelry is always a must with Boho, but adding some really long pieces to your already flowing look can add real elegance and style. Keep them in neutral colours if you want to add subtlety to your outfit. Check out the jewelry and accessories we currently have on offer here.
  • Eveningwear and occasions do still call for jackets, so when styling your Boho look in these situations it’s best to keep it a little more styled up, whether this is through stunning embellishment, the timelessness of a leather jacket, or a long overcoat style.
  • Feel free to shake it up – jumpsuits, dressy skirts or pants with a high neck or halter top can help up your ante in the evening! But don’t forget the heels, they really do turn day into night.

How to Dress Boho in Autumn & Winter

We mean it when we say Boho can be year-round.

Winter and autumn are actually perfect seasons for rocking the Boho look. You don’t have to tuck away your favourite floral maxi dress and skirts just because the temperature starts to drop. To style your winter outfits, embrace your cozy knits, cardigans and general outwear, and layer over your favourite looks. Add some boots, blue jeans, jackets, hats, and sweaters with fringe detailing wherever necessary.

Here’s a few tips to keep in mind through autumn and winter:

  • Though layering is good, avoid overlayering or creating a “frumpy” look. Try to incorporate a really warm knit or overcoat, so the other features or you look can bring additional warmth and style without needing to be 3 inches thick.
  • Opt for undershirts (the long-sleeved, tighter variety always give a good and warm contrast) with your long maxi dresses, it’s a classic look and in more earthy or darker shades it can help change with the seasons!
  • Think beyond statement jewelry and bags, style your winter look with wool hats, scarves, and even some gloves.

How to Dress Boho in Spring & Summer

Spring and summer are the easiest seasons when it comes to incorporating Boho into your look. When the weather starts warming up, it’s time to drop the heavy knits and start wearing those free-flowing bright Boho dresses with a little more pride. Decorate heavily with jewelry, sunglasses, hats, and other adorable accessories. For an extra cute feel through the summer? Kimonos work perfectly to keep you lightly (and creatively) covered through those sunny beach/adventure days! Check out our range here

But in general, we recommend making the most of “you” through the warmer months. Now that you can drop all the heavy outwear, it’s time to let the real you shine from the inside out. Find your favourite loud piece and apply!
